Faith and Prayer
                                                                                                                                                     c 2005

In this section you will find out what our faith is about. You will find a brief outline of the Christian faith. Also, there are separate sections for prayers for you to use in all sorts of situations. We hope that you find peace and fulfilment here. If you want to know more, contact us, or, even better, come along to our Sunday service at 11am.

Christianity - What we believe

As Christians we believe that God created the world and that Jesus is the son of God made man to save us from our sins. We believe that he died for us and that he rose from the dead and ascended to heaven and that he has begun his reign over heaven and earth. We believe that Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to help us on earth.

Prayers and readings

Here you can find prayers and scripture quotes, which can help you with:

  •  Times of happiness
  •  Times of sadness
  •  Times of worry
  •  When someone's sick
  •  When someone's depressed
  •  When someone's lonely
  •  When someone's frightened
  •  Peace in the world
  •  Hope in the future
  •  Forgiveness

A prayer for God's presence
Let the love of God surround you as you sit or kneel quietly.
Let the hurry and worry of your life fall away from you.
You are God's child.
He loves you and cares for you.
He is here with you now and always.
Speak to him slowly and thoughtfully - give yourself
time for him to bring things to mind.

A prayer to say sorry
Lord, I am sorry...
for the times when I have been
hasty or unkind (especially to...)
thought or acted selfishly,
failed to forgive or ask forgiveness,
forgotten your presence,
taken your love for granted.
I thank you for your promise
to forgive all those who turn
back to you.

A prayer of thanks
Lord, thank you... )
for.your presence here,
for the opportunity to pray,
for the promise of peace,
for the beauty of the world,
the kindness of people...
for all those whom I love...
and who love me...
for your love towards me and especially for...)
for the Cross of Christ and the power of the Spirit.
Help me to show my gratitude in deeds as well as words.

A prayer if you are anxious
Lord, I am troubled...
I am anxious and distressed for myself...
for others...
especially about...
Help me to trust your love, for you carry our sorrows.
Teach me to act and speak in the way you want.
Give me the wisdom to know when not to interfere.
Calm my fears...

A prayer for friends and family
Lord, I pray for...
my family.., and friends,
my neighbours at home, at work,
the ones I like.., and dislike...
for those who are ill...
those who are troubled or who mourn,
for the oppressed,
for those involved in disaster or war.
Bless them, Father, in their various
troubles, and show me how I may help.

A prayer of thanks
Heavenly Father,
your will for me (and for all people)
is my happiness now and for ever.
I thank you for the blessings you
have given me and ask for
strength to walk in the way
where you lead me.
Help me to remember the
love of Jesus shown on the
Cross and to accept the new
life and love and freedom
which he offers to me.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us,
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
