PRAYER

A PRAYER FOR OUR CHURCH

said at Evening Prayer

We thank you O Father

for this ancient and historic Parish Church of West Ham,

for our Royal Patron,

our Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth,

and for all our benefactors;

and we pray,

that following the example of all the saints,

and of those who have worshipped here and gone to their rest,

we in our day, will give you true and faithful service,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

                                                                Amen.                                                                                                                                                                 A Prayer of S R Kirby, 2008

Evening Prayer in church using the Shorter Prayer Book

Prayers are usually said in the church at 5.15pm (-5.35) on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, (but see our Weekly Sheet for any temporary variation to this pattern). There is a prayer screen in the church where you can leave a prayer request and light a candle. These prayers are then offered up during the evening services.

If you wish public prayer to be said for someone during our Sunday services, please print the name in our Prayer Folder before the service, having previously obtained the person's permission.

Or, you can contact us with a prayer request, to do that please ring 0208 519 0955.

Lighthouses of Prayer

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.

WE KNOW GOD ANSWERS CONSTANT HEARTFELT  REPEATED PRAYER.

Talk to God about our neighbourhoods before talking to our neighbours about God.

LIGHTHOUSES OF PRAYER are individual Christian households agreeing to pray for their neighbours, their street or their block. It is the first stage in sharing the Good News.

Every street, every block in Newham should be covered with prayer for our neighbours, for their needs, and to open the door for God to answer these prayers and to show his glory and compassion. Through this concentrated prayer the spiritual climate is changed, and the door is opened for sharing the Good News.

Every Christian household should be a Lighthouse of Prayer.

It is based on Jesus' instruction to his disciples.

Phase 1: PRAYING - Establish your faith area (people to pray for) and "speak peace"
LUKE 10. v5

Phase 2: BUILDING BRIDGES
LUKE 10. v7

Phase 3: CARING - Praying and responding to felt needs
LUKE 10. v9

Phase 4: SHARING THE GOSPEL
LUKE 10. v9

There is no rush - take it "one inch at a time".

At the time of writing (2005) there are about 600 STREETS with lighthouses of prayer in Newham. Our area is under-represented so far - but we can quickly change that.
